FC Barcelona | Hansi Flick rules out a transfer

FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has decided that the club does not need to pursue a new central midfielder in the market. He believes that the positions are well covered for the future with Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal.

Since Sergio Busquets‘ departure from FC Barcelona, the club has been actively searching for a player to fill that void.

Initially, they brought in Oriol Romeu, but after realizing he wasn’t up to the task, the board had to continue their search.

Last summer, the Catalans aimed to sign players like Joshua Kimmich, Mikel Merino, and Amadou Onana, but due to the club’s challenging financial situation, those deals fell through. Consequently, the new coach, Hansi Flick, turned to the youth team for solutions.

Flick’s decision
According to the newspaper Sport, after assessing that both the currently injured Marc Bernal (17 years old) and Marc Casadó (21) possess the skills needed to manage the midfield, Flick has advised the board to put an end to their search.

He believes this duo is sufficient, and if needed, he can also rely on Eric García or Andreas Christensen, or adjust the roles of other midfielders like Gavi, Fermín, or Frenkie de Jong.

Although the sporting management had already begun to search the market with the aim of trying to recruit a midfielder in January, Flick’s stance has left the inquiries for two Chelsea players, the Belgian Roméo Lavia and the Englishman Carney Chukwuemeka .

“Deco has always been a fan of Romeo Lavia, a player who was sidelined last season due to injury and is currently not a key figure in the team. There’s also Chukwuemeka, the promising young talent of Nigerian descent. He was offered in the summer and again now, but Flick prefers to invest in La Masia,” the newspaper summarizes.
