The adaptable Spanish defender Mario Hermoso has emerged as a potential target for Real Madrid, who currently have only one fit centre-back, the German Antonio Rüdiger.
While some reports suggest that Real Madrid may wait until summer to make any signings, speculation about bringing in a new defender during the upcoming winter transfer window continues.
“Right now, the white team has just one fit centre-back in the first team (Vallejo is not in the picture), and it seems too risky to navigate the rest of the season with Rüdiger and youth player Asencio as the only viable options,” notes Marca.
According to this publication, the club’s management is still weighing the option of bolstering the defense in January and has identified a player they believe could be beneficial for Carlo Ancelotti.
This player is none other than the Madrid native Mario Hermoso.
Mario Hermoso Is A Familiar Face
The 29-year-old defender came up through the Real Madrid youth ranks and made 33 official appearances for Castilla.
He later played for Real Valladolid, Espanyol, and Atlético de Madrid before moving to AS Roma last summer.
Under contract with the Giallorossi until June 2027.
Mario Hermoso is open to switching teams again, aiming to join a capital club that values his physical and technical skills, as well as his versatility to play both as a central defender and on the wing.
