In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, expressed his complete trust in Marc-André ter Stegen and dismissed any potential move for Diogo Costa.

He also downplayed the speculation linking the club to German defender Jonathan Tah.

Despite the fact that the German goalkeeper is currently sidelined due to injury and is 32 years old, the board believes he can still perform at an elite level in the years to come.

The sporting management is not looking to sign a new goalkeeper at this time.

“Marc has three years left on his contract, and at 32, he is still young for a goalkeeper. Our focus is on ensuring he recovers well and returns strong.

Therefore, having two reliable goalkeepers is crucial, and we are not rushing his return. We are taking it step by step; I don’t think this is something we need to address right now,” Deco stated.

Consequently, during his discussion with Mundo Deportivo, Deco was quick to dismiss rumors about a potential move for Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa (25, Porto).

“First of all, we have Ter Stegen. I don’t see the need for another goalkeeper because when Marc is fit, we won’t be signing anyone else.

Also, if I were Diogo, I’m not sure I would want to come to Barcelona just to be a backup. We are satisfied with the goalkeepers we currently have. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds with Porto,” he explained.

The strong 28-year-old center-back will be a free agent next summer after his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires.

“The dynamics within a squad can shift. There are moments when you think one thing due to immediate needs, but as the season progresses, circumstances change because, in football, a year, while it may seem short, is significant.

Right now, we are not planning any signings. We have Araujo returning, along with Christensen, Eric, Cubarsí, and Iñigo.

The time will come for us to strategize about the future, but for now, we are not making any decisions.

We pursued him at that time because Bernal’s injury forced Eric, a center-back, to step up and play as a pivot since we had very few options.

Casadó was more suited to an ‘8’ role than a ‘6’, and Gavi had not yet returned from his injury, which influenced our decision at that moment.

However, if decisions cannot be made in the present, it doesn’t mean they have to be made next year. The dynamics evolve, and at this point, we are satisfied with our current squad,” he stated.
