In discussions with Liverpool about extending his contract, England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is seeking a three-year deal along with the captain’s armband.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid continues to show interest. It seems like every day, media outlets are speculating about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future. The 26-year-old right-back’s contract with Liverpool expires next summer, and he has yet to decide whether to stay with the club or explore new opportunities away from Anfield.

Two Conditions Demanded by Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to talkSPORT, during talks with the Reds’ management, the defender has set two conditions for his contract renewal. The first is that his new deal must be for at least three years, ensuring he secures a substantial salary as he approaches the latter stages of his career.

The second, and perhaps more surprising, demand is for the captaincy. Currently, that role belongs to Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, who is also facing contract uncertainty and might be displeased if the club agrees to Alexander-Arnold’s requests.

“It remains unclear how Trent Alexander-Arnold’s captaincy request could impact Van Dijk’s own contract negotiations,” notes the Daily Mirror.

At the same time, Real Madrid, the primary contender for the winger’s signature, is actively pursuing him. Los Blancos aim to sign the player without a transfer fee and have already initiated the necessary steps to finalize the agreement swiftly.

Alexander-Arnold: Real Madrid or Liverpool’s Future Star?

As reported by OK Diario, the club from Chamartín hopes to secure his signing well before June 30th, similar to their previous acquisition of Kylian Mbappé.

Real Madrid‘s interest in Alexander-Arnold aligns with their overall strategy to enhance their squad with elite talent. The club believes that bringing him on board would not only strengthen their defense but also add significant attacking options from the right side.

The chance to sign such a high-profile player on a free transfer is certainly enticing for the Spanish giants.

The next few weeks and months will be pivotal for Alexander-Arnold’s future. Liverpool will have to balance the player’s requests with their overall team dynamics and financial situation.

At the same time, Alexander-Arnold faces a choice: continue his impressive career at Anfield, where he has become one of the top right-backs globally, or start a new journey with Real Madrid.

As the transfer window draws near, the football community will be paying close attention. The results of these discussions will significantly impact Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Alexander-Arnold himself. No matter what he decides, one thing is clear: Trent Alexander-Arnold’s career will continue to be a major topic in the football world.
