As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea is gearing up to make big signings. The Blues have identified a number of top players across Europe in order to strengthen their squad and challenge for major honours next season.

Here, we take a look at eight star players Chelsea are targeting in the summer transfer market.

1. Matheus Cunha

Chelsea have been watching Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Brazilian forward for some time now, and this season he’s been in fine form, scoring 13 goals in 25 Premier League games.

The 28-year-old can play as a central striker, or out wide on the wings, so he’d be a versatile addition to the club’s attack.

He’s signed a new contract with Wolves, but he hints he wants to take the next step in his career, and that could mean a move to Stamford Bridge.

2. Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is a Nigerian striker on loan from Napoli at Galatasaray. The 22-year-old has been impressive in the Turkish Super Lig this season, scoring 20 goals in 26 matches.

Chelsea is in the market for a proven striker, and Osimhen fits the bill. He’s physical, quick and can finish. Manchester United are also interested in the forward, but Chelsea’s financial strength could help them land him.

3. Viktor Gyokere

Viktor Gyokere has been sensational this season for Sporting CP, scoring 35 goals in 36 appearances.

The club are in the market for a prolific No. 9 and Gyokere ticks all the boxes the club are looking for—power, pace and top-level finishing.

With Barcelona out of the running to sign Gyokere, Chelsea will have a much easier time securing his signature.

The Blues must act quickly though, as other Premier League clubs are also interested in the Swedish forward.

4. Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko has been a long-term target for Chelsea and the Slovenian striker continues to impress in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals this season.

He would be a fantastic addition to the squad as he would provide a focal point to the attack and his clean striking would make him a very dangerous player.

Arsenal are also interested in Sesko, but Chelsea’s willingness to spend big could be the difference in securing his signature.

5. Victor Boniface

Several top clubs are monitoring the Nigerian striker, including Chelsea. The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 18 appearances this season.

His size and goalscoring ability would fit well into Chelsea’s attack. Newcastle United is also interested in Boniface, but Chelsea’s financial muscle could give them an edge in the race to sign the striker.

6. Illia Zabarnyi

Chelsea’s defensive targets include Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi. The Ukrainian center-back has been pivotal for the Cherries this season as they’ve formed a formidable defensive partnership.

The 22-year-old has his best years ahead of him, too, and his defensive qualities will appeal to Chelsea.

The Blues will have to battle off interest from Tottenham and other Premier League clubs to sign Zabarnyi.

7. Dean Huijsen

His defensive stats, such as interceptions and clearances, show that he could be a top defender in the future.

Chelsea are in the market for young defensive players and his £50 million release clause makes him an appealing target.

Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in signing Huijsen, so Chelsea need to act fast if they want to sign him.

8. Marc Guehi

Another English centre-back in the picture is Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace center-back. The 23-year-old has been a regular Premier League performer this season and has attracted interest from several top clubs.

Chelsea want to add depth to their defensive options and Guehi, who has grown up at the club, could fit the bill. The Blues will have to negotiate with Crystal Palace to sign Guehi, but he’s keen on returning to London.

By continuing to monitor the likes of Matheus Cunha, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokere, Benjamin Sesko, Victor Boniface, Illia Zabarnyi, Dean Huijsen and Marc Guehi, Chelsea are clearly intent on building a squad capable of challenging for major honors in both domestic and international competitions.

Players like Cunha, Osimhen, Gyokere, Sesko, Boniface, Zabarnyi, Huijsen and Guehi could provide the necessary depth, versatility and quality to achieve those goals.

With the transfer window looming, it will be interesting to see how these pursuits progress and how Chelsea shapes up their squad heading into the new season.
