After losing heavily to FC Barcelona in the last Clásico, Real Madrid are seriously considering the possibility of turning to the winter transfer market in search of reinforcements.

The board is willing to modify its initial plan of not signing any players in January.

Last Saturday, Real Madrid suffered a tough and painful defeat against their great rivals, FC Barcelona.

The Whites fell by a resounding 0-4 against a Catalan team that knew how to take advantage of the obvious weaknesses that, at this stage of the season, the Chamartín team still shows

In the Clásico, the Merengues struggled with their attackers’ lack of precision.

The absence of a midfielder with the vision that Toni Kroos provided before his retirement, and a noticeable defensive frailty.

In fact, all the goals conceded highlighted the defenders’ inability to contain Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski.

Then there’s the right-back situation.

Carvajal won’t be playing again this season, creating a significant gap since he was one of Ancelotti’s options for emergency situations in the center of defense.

This leaves three out of four defensive positions without a natural backup: Lucas Vázquez, Rüdiger, Militao, and beyond them, there’s a void.

There’s no safety net in a season packed with fixtures, which could see Madrid playing up to 72 games if they progress in all seven competitions.

While results were favorable, the club’s plan to avoid January investments seemed reasonable, especially after last season’s injuries to Militao and Alaba.

However, the Merengue coach has lost his way during the first major challenge of the League, and the team can’t afford any more slip-ups against this Barça side led by Flick, which has amassed 30 points out of a possible 33.

Signings?

Finding a replacement for Kroos in January is unlikely, so the board is now seriously considering seeking defensive reinforcements in the winter market.

While the club officially maintains its position of not making signings, there is growing internal speculation about possible movements.

According to As, the Concha Espina team might look to bolster their defense with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in June but could potentially be available in January for a reasonable fee.

They may also seek a centre-back, especially after Nacho Fernández’s departure and David Alaba’s injury, leaving them with only Éder Militao and Antonio Rüdiger.

In this context, Aymeric Laporte (Al Nassr) and Mario Gila (Lazio) are among the most frequently mentioned names.
