BVB is focused on bolstering their left-back position, even as early as January. Two Premier League players are at the top of their list.
Borussia Dortmund sold Tom Rothe (19) to Union Berlin last summer for 5 million euros, while Ian Maatsen (22) moved to Aston Villa for 45 million euros after his loan from Chelsea.
However, Dortmund has yet to finalize any signings to enhance their left flank, leaving only Ramy Bensebaini (29) and young talent Almugera Kabar (18) available for Nuri Sahin.
If the coach identifies a need in this area, there’s a strong possibility that they will make moves in the upcoming winter transfer window.
One potential target is Hungarian international Milos Kerkez (20), who currently plays for Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth.
This information comes from the English outlet teamTALK, which also notes that Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping tabs on him.
A busy January ahead for Borussia Dortmund
In fact, BVB have sent scouts to keep a closer eye on the full-back who arrived in England from AZ Alkmaar for 18 million euros in the summer of 2003, so a January departure seems highly unlikely and we would have to wait at least until the summer for it to happen.
In this context, there may be more opportunities with the second name on their list.
This is Ben Chilwell (27), who was offered to Dortmund last summer but was turned down.
Now deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, where he is seeking an exit, his name has resurfaced in discussions. We’ll need to stay alert to see if Signal Iduna Park changes its stance.
