We took a look at the players who have scored the most hat-tricks in the five major leagues of international football. As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi occupy the top spots.
We are witnessing the end of an era. Specifically, the one dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Winners of a good handful of Ballon d’Ors, the Argentine and the Portuguese are also the big names in every ranking of the sport’s milestones.
Take a look at the latest ranking released by Transfermarkt, which highlights the footballers with the most hat-tricks in the five major leagues worldwide.
Clearly, the former stars of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona hold the top two positions by a significant margin.
While the Portuguese has now scored a total of 39 hat-tricks after his time at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, the Argentine has done the same on 36 occasions, all with FC Barcelona.
With a top-level goalscorer like Robert Lewandowski just a long way behind him, there is no doubt that this milestone is unlikely to be surpassed in the short term.
Here are the players with the most hat-tricks in the major leagues
1. Cristiano Ronaldo with 39. 2. Lionel Messi with 36. 3. Robert Lewandowski with 18. 4. Luis Suarez with 16. 5. Harry Kane with 14. 6. Sergio Aguero with 13. 7. Mario Gomez with 12. 8. Edinson Cavani with 12. 9. Erling Haaland with 11. 10. Alan Shearer with 11.
